If you find a piece of audio equipment, digital or otherwise, that can remove the ringing and whistling from my left ear let me know!

My old Bose earbuds finally gave in to BCS (Bent Cord Syndrome) and frayed beyond repair. To replace them I just ordered some of these...

CNET Review: Klipsch S4

These are quite popular and under $100. Amazon.com was out of stock, as was everywhere else, but the Klipsch website did not list them as such so I went ahead and ordered through them; if that doesn't work there's always eBay!

For now I'm using these 'cans':

Philips HP 170. Good sound quality, though I have to look like an air traffic controller when I wear them!

My favorite cans are still Sennheiser's. Best bang for the buck. Klipsch makes excellent speakers, though I've not tried their headphones.

Which is why I no longer by expensive in-ear phones. £20 max, usually much less. Sony's seem to have the best longevity from my experience. Sennheisers have lasted me only a few months before cable issues rendered them useless, and I look after my kit!

Well, I find BCS can happen to any head pieces... The Bose lasted quite long and supposedly the new ones will come with a shiny tin case!

Not to my Sony's so far and I've had them for ages, but I think you missed my point - I am aware that any brand can potentially break, but if it's going to cost me £80 (the price of Bose buds here) it better not break in my lifetime!

I have a big pile of shiny cases belonging to broken headphones...

A good idea.

Nowadays I listen 95% to computer playback. I have 700+ CDs ripped to FLAC or ALAC (Apple Lossless) formats.

Seems a substantial set up, I just hope you have high quality cables! I listen to music most of the time too and from work on my audio player, on the rare occasion I have opportunity for home listening my humble hi-fi is enough.

Sorry for taking so long to reply to these posts, Rod, et al. I really must get around here much more often.

With regards to cables my set-up is fairly modest. Many of my cables come from >Bluejeans Cable< which is a State-side outfit that purveys a range of professional (if not necessarily "audiophile") grade cables and interconnects.

Once again ... >my stereo configuration<

Yes it has taken you almost two years to raise your post tally to 4, I indeed look forward to seeing you around more often. 8)

...

I shall certainly try to do that, Rod. In any case this is #5.

I must add at once that for the Invictus Axiom to be true, it must follow that the obverse of the coin should be equally valid; that is to say not only are classical purists generally indifferent or even hostile to the latest in sound technology (they are, in modern parlance, "late adapters"), the audiophiles correspondingly have no interest in classical music.
...

invictus' assertion is only valid in so far as a person doesn't have to be an audiophile to love music, classical or otherwise. But I have the acquaintance of far too many classical music lovers who are also audiophiles to accept his generalization as definitive.

Well I think you are cheating a bit there to get your stripe. I think we are familiar enough with this diagram by now! 8)

Anyway you have your wish, check the Monster Poll.

Opps, sorry. I was trying to update the original link which was dead. I think I accidently hit 'Quote' instead of 'Edit'. Anyway as a bonus, see a photo of my stereo system ...

Excellent! Long live Carter! (Although given he's in his 101st year, that might be asking a lot.)

Wow, I could live inside one of those speaker cabinets. I could put Mrs TMT in the other one! :D

Or are they flat speakers?

Yes, those are Magneplanar MG1.6QR dipolar magneto-planar speakers. They are about 65" tall x 19" wide x 2" thick, so unless you're very skinny ...
