Apparently, there were some storyboards for Sibelius's Swan of Tuonela and Wagner's Ride of the Valyries that never made it into Disney's 1940 classic. These storyboards have been compiled and set to the music intended; see what you think...

Well the Sibelius has enough mood music in there to fit nicely as a movie soundtrack, however perhaps there is too much mood and not enough points of character or drama in the music nor the storyboard. Also one might say the music is not familiar enough to the general movie going public, so that would be another minus point.

With the Wagner of course the music is dramatic and very famliar, but perhaps this is all too heavily Teutonic for 1940...

Very interesting, thanks Sorin. I think I may need to check this Sibelius out...

These are very interesting clips, but I can see why they left them out. Sibelius probably would have been better served with Finlandia; that's what everybody remembers him for. The Valkyries is too grim - these ladies are waiting for people to die. But having them slide down a wave like a surfer is a nice touch.

I much prefer Disney's other version of the Ride of the Valkyries.

That's Warner Bros!
