I joined this forum with the hope that someone may be able to identify some music that has been running around in my head. I hope this is the right place to post.

I've attached an image of what I think the first few bars are. I think it's classical, but it might be from a movie. I feel I should know it, but can't come up with what it is. Because it's from memory some of the timing and notes in the image are off, but I think it's close enough that someone familiar with it should be able to identify it. Thanks in advance.

Joe

I for one have no idea, then again I can't read music beyond a rudimentary level!

My bet is on Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony, 2nd movement.

Welcome to the forum!

I played it out on the keyboard... Doesn't sound familiar... Sorry, Jhney. :(

probably you are right, SeuLunga
the tune seems indeed the theme of the Andante cantabile, but that's not in 4/4, it's in triple time (12/8 ).

welcome to the forum jhney

if you want you can check SeuLunga's answer

I think the "score" here is in 4/4 because he imported it from midi (probably he played it to the computer), without changing any settings, not that it would make much difference, midi import from something you are playing is almost impossible to come out excatly right (we are not machines).

Thanks to all of you. I was leaning toward Tchaikovsky. It has a lot of Tchaikovsky sound to it. I had looked at Pathetique, but it's not like anything in Pathetique. I'll look at your suggestions.

BTW, I used a M_Audio keyboard attached to GarageBand on a Macintosh to get the score, which I then had to cut an paste to make the image. I wish I could have sent the sound.

Yes it is Tchaikovsky's 5th 2nd movement. I've attached the beginning of the score to this post. You can hear the first part of this on Youtube at

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TtQRWwW_Ww

The second part (which was in the last part of the notes I posted at the start of this thread) can be heard at

http://tr.youtube.com/watch?v=J4cadeoMA ... 18&index=3

Thanks again. It's nice to put a name on the music in my head.

Joe
