The gong is truly unique; I think it probably represents the shattering of the world. A discussion for the Cherubini Requiem topic, though!

Verdi's was criticized for being too theatrical. I have that recording by HvK. Another thread to think about! Rolling Eyes

Back to Faure, though... I liked the use of organ to create a mystical tone, very creative.
