I love Savall's third. I agree, it's head and shoulders above every other third I've heard. I'd love to see him do an entire Beethoven cycle, but he seems to have decided to focus his efforts on Medieval and Renaissance music.

Yes, what a tragic waste of an opportunity.
I love what he's done in that arena, so I can't call it a complete waste. However, there is definitely opportunity there to put a defining touch on a complete Beethoven cycle. Maybe if we get enough people to request such a thing he'll do it.

I meant it is a waste he didn't do more than just the Eroica.

Perhaps we should start a CMM online petition!
Aother conductor I wish would try his hand at recording Beethoven's symphonies is Christoph Spering... Just throwing that one out there!

Well one at a time SE!
But the online petition is a good idea, maybe someone can set it up? Or I will when I have the time.

I wonder how one would go about getting the contact info to Savall? Just did a quick Google search. His website is here and there's contact info on the page itself. However it's not in English so I couldn't read it.

I suppose you'd start by contacting the record company and asking around there... Unless you have contacts in the music industry that could get you such information.

From what I could tell on a brief search Savall is his own recording company now--all of newer discs are from his own production company.

Got my hands on Savall's Eroica; absolutely brilliant. How's the progress coming on the Savall Beethoven Symphony Cycle petition Rod? If you decide to go for it, I'll glady sign (er, type) my name for it!

Oh I forgot all about that! Well, at the weekend I'll see what I can do.

While we're on the topic, I see Bruggen has a Beethoven Symphony Cycle out!!! Has anyone heard this??? If it's as good as his Beethoven Violin Concerto, then I'm willing to fork over big cash for it! Here's a link to this cycle, with samples: {Amazon.com}

Amen to that!
I forgot again about the poll!
But to Bruggen, I've heard quite a lot of his Symphonies set a long time ago. My recollection was that the sound wasn't too hot and the performances rather mannered compared to his more recent Beethoven releases. If they've remastered them the edition will be of more interest. I'll keep a look out for this set. Will try the youtube tonight.
