I'm finally liking Debussy's music. Here is a helpful book. It gives a brief explanation of his works and has an accompanying CD with some not-too-shabby performers.

I just finished Alex Ross' survey of 20th Century classical music and musicians. Much of it is culled from his New York Times articles, so it is very readable and nontechnical. He includes just about everyone in it (okay, so Mompou, Gloria Coates, and Rauvaverra aren't there, but that's all I can think of) and every movement that arose within its context without the dryness of a textbook. In my opinion, it's worth reading.
