Look at the lady in the back, though... Didn't she realise her picture was being taken? What is she looking at???

Perhaps she was looking at me!? :D

The columns vary all in height, some are taller then those in the pic if I remember correctly. Anyway I'm off down town now, CD hunting..

Her is is turned too fully for it to be mere accident. Knowing several professional photographers (one of my best friends is one, my uncle now works as an editor for a major newspaper, and one of my exes has her own photography business), I can pretty safely say that the woman is placed that way for "artistic" purposes.

Don't ask me why that would be considered better than having her look at the camera full on, but that's the assumption I'm going with.

Maybe the mystery woman has hid her face because she has a contract with Fabio Biondi's group.

I think it's notable how the bassoon player has his instrument balanced on his shoes. I wouldn't do that to my soprano saxophone.

I just picked this up for 75 cents.

With all that spare change, I was able to get Neeme Jarvi's recording of Grieg's Symphonic Dances.

$.75!!! What a deal!

I know you'll enjoy the Grieg. Some fantastic music. It seems very Autumnal in places, so you got it at just the right season!

Since we're going to be coming up to Vivaldi's Op. 8 in the near future I ordered this...

Image

This is the Dresden version of the Four Seasons, sporting some wind accents. Will be interesting to say the least!

I saw this at a used CD store, and it looked interesting.

Image

I also saw this, and I'm interested because we used to have Linconshire Posey in my college band book. We didn't play it this well, though.

I've heard the cover piece, "In a Nutshell." I disliked Grainger's own works so much I deleted them from my archive... :?

No kidding? I think his music is interesting, both harmonically and orchestrally. He could write stock arrangements of folk tunes, but instead, he throws in unexpected chord progressions, he throws the rhythm off kilter, and he uses unorthodox but effective instrumental effects. That's what I like about this; you don't know what's coming next.

My used CD store is having a 25%-off sale, so I picked up Norrington's Beethoven's 9th for 1.50.

For .75, I found Bruno Walter conducting Mahler's 2nd and 4th in 1948 and 1945.

It looks like another interesting weekend ahead.

Coincidentally I too picked up a cheap (though not quite as wonderfully cheap as yours) used Mahler CD today. 3 & 4 by Klaus Tennstedt.

Sounds to me like you've got a great used CD store.

So I ordered this cd from Amazon. It's out of print so I had to order it used.

The disc arrived today, only somewhere along the way there was a mixup. The case was right but the actual cd inside it was this one:

So, my question is this--do I keep the Corelli or contact the seller and ask them to send me the Purcell?

Tell me about it. I recently received this through the door...

I've certainly never ordered that. I regard these things as acts of providence...

I kind of doubt McGegan is going to give Corelli much of a workout. That's only the first six concerti, too! I think I'd send it back. That Purcell disc is great, too!

Ha-ha - ordered!

I had been looking for this everywhere. Someone posted it in Like New condition today for a mere $35, so I jumped at it! Patience does, indeed, pay off!
