I went back to Borders and picked this up for $3 with their coupon.

Borders is not usually price competitive here in the UK. I used to listen to new CD at Borders because they had a lot of listening posts, then I'd go over the road to HMV to actually buy the goods for £2 less!

HMV sounds like fun. We don't have anything like that in Nashville.

Yesterday was my last day as a member of the BMG Music Club (they're changing to a new format), so I grabbed this as I walked out the door from their clearance section.

I don't think Bjorlin's is the best recording of Berwald, but there's so much music crammed into these three CDs, it was worth the price, especially at 80% off.

A great bargain, there's some really enjoyable music on that set (Sorin gave me the hard sell on it ).

Rod - As you have probably guessed by now, I love the unsung composers! Not that I don't enjoy Beethoven and Handel as I have their major works in my library, but I have always been the guy who likes the lesser knowns and obscure artists. I've heard most of Beethoven enough to satisfy me. I really love to explore music that is hardly ever heard. Just my preference.

Yes, that set comes highly recommended from the folks here at Café Sorin.

I think Bjorlin does quite well with Berwald. He's certainly better than the Naxos recordings. Do you have other Berwald recordings you could share in my old topics, Brian? :o

By my count that's 32 album's worth of music--at $2.99 a pop that puts you at very nearly $100. I sure hope you're getting free shipping for all that! :D

How'd you like the Nocturne set?

Image

Just purchased this set--$24 for six volumes of Brahms' Lieder performed by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau is a bargain in my book.

Also took the plunge and got this set by J P E Hartmann

In that case you should really be into Handel, much of even his best music was rarely if ever recorded until recent years, much of it you still can't find on record. If you like unsung composers, then Handel should be your first choice.

I really enjoyed this disc Smiley and thanks for the recommendation! van Oort is a fantastic pianist and these are very nicely recorded.

Great! I was a little concerned if I made a good purchase.

I have Markevitch's Symphony Singulare that someone ripped for me off an old LP, complete with scratches and pops; that's all from him.

Where is you Berwald topic?

Wow! I'll have to check them out. But I think I'll have to sell something to pay for it first.

I have the Piston, Foote, Strong, Chadwick, Shostakovich, and Coates CDs. I haven't been sorry for the purchases.

I have that, great stuff, of course
the only defect: in the booklet there's only the German text, without translations

so one must search here: http://www.recmusic.org/lieder/b/brahms.html

There does appear to be a Naxos clearance for folks in the UK too - NAXOS . You can often find these bargains through their storefront on Amazon too. It's well worth checking once in a while.

Wow, what a shopping frenzy you folks are having. This weeks highlight of my own present pathological shopping compulsion is this-
