Not for Michael Haydn...

I'll produce a monthly pie chart like I did for the old poll.

Which Wranitzky!? But I don't think either could be included here, unless I replace Wolf?? I have tried to include people from all the musical eras. No room for Kraus, I am very limited in what I can change now for technical reasons. I have replaced Reich with Salieri though.

Anyway debate for name changes is now closed as this could go on for ever. Please PM me if you have any further queries along these lines.

For those not familiar with Dukas chances are you've heard his most famous piece without knowing it...

Hi, folks,

I'm pretty (or totally?) new here, but I couldn't resist posting my 10 favourite composers. Here they are ...

1. Ludwig van Beethoven
2. Johann Sebastian Bach
3. Dmitri Shostakovich
4. Franz Schubert
5. Sergi Prokofiev
6. Elliott Carter ( -- yes, damned right)
7. Franz Josef Haydn
8. George Frederick Handel
9. Bela Bartok
10. Igor Stravinsky

Cheers!

(Other people's choices: Alkan :!: :?: Why not?)

You were one of the first people to join this site back in November 2007 and you call yourself "new"?? Anyway thanks for voting, I think I have proved beyond all reasonable doubt that Bach should be at position 8 and Handel at least at position 2, but hey this is a democracy. :D

But I notice the total votes is 169, which means someone only voted for 9 composers!

Absolutely! I didn't vote for him personally, but I can certainly see why someone would. His music is some of the best piano music I've ever heard, especially that of a grand scale.

Well there you have it. Carter is my #6 but I couldn't vote for him because he's not on the list. :(

Actually he was on my original list but he was one of those 'thinned out'. He could still be included at this late stage but either John Cage or William Byrd would have to go. What do you make of that?

Humm! Difficult choice , but I lean to the Modernists and Contemporary composers so I vote to turf Byrd.
